Do you know why Barbeque was created? It was created for large family gatherings – like a wedding – so you could cook large quantities of food over a long period of time for mass amounts of people. True barbeque is the art of taking a tough piece of meat and over a slow cooking process, turning into a tender and delicious piece of meat. Real barbeque takes time, attention and love.
So if you’re gonna have a 4th of July BBQ, then darnit, let’s do some BBQ! Here’s a real bbq menu for your big party.
Smoked Sausage Roll and Smoked Sausage & Cheese crackers. If you haven’t checked out these recipes, do so now. I dare you to not get excited about these. I look at the pictures of the sausage roll and my salivary glands go into overdrive. These really aren’t difficult – they just take time and smoke. So fire up your smoker or get that grill set up for indirect cooking and have some fun.
Smoked German Potato Salad. Well you’re already smoking, so why wouldn’t you throw some bacon wrapped potatoes on there? Seems silly not to. I’m giving you a personal guarantee – everyone that tries this will tell you it’s the best German Potato Salad they’ve ever eaten.
Smoked Whole Chicken and/or Smoked Pulled Pork. If it were me, I would do both. I love offering a variety, and there are some that just don’t like pork. These are two true bbq meats that are so delicious, your guests will think they’ve just walked into Barbeque Heaven. Plus, you can do these well in advance if you’d rather not be working too hard during your party. Heck, I’ve frozen both of these many times and personally think they’re actually BETTER after freezing and thawing. So do it. It’s time. But a warning: Once you’ve smoked chicken and pork, you’ll want to do it again and again…(and if you cook in advance it allows you to serve BBQ Nachos…mmmm…..)
There you have it. A delicious and impressive bbq menu for your party. Do this menu and you guarantee all guests will return year after year. They’ll have no choice. It’s just that good.
Whatever menu you decide on, have fun with it, spend some time with family and friends, and enjoy your Independence Day.
