Hooray! Memorial Day Weekend is FINALLY here! School is out, pools are opening, and it’s the “official” start to the grilling season. Amen. Alleluia.
Most of you will be focused on grilling, rather than BBQ. With May being National Burger Month, we’ve been posting a LOT of burger recipes and have another couple up our sleeves, so you had better consider some of those if grilling burgers this weekend. You can check out our full burger list on our Main Courses pageunder the burger title. If you’re not doing burgers, then you might be doing Brats or Pork Steaks. Either way, check out our versions of these classics to mix it up a bit.
But don’t forget to start with an appetizer. It gets the party started in just the right way. You need to seriously consider either Bacon Wrapped Mushrooms or Jalapeno Poppers. Both are crowd pleasers. One has bacon. But you know I’ll probably go to my favorite standby: Memphis Sausage & Cheese.
For a side dish to go with your grilled deliciousness, try some Grilled Veggies or Corn on the Cob – they’re delicious and you can make a ton of them. Plus, let’s be honest, it’s the only healthy thing you ‘ll be eating this weekend. However, if you want to blow the roof off the place, go with Extraordinary Smoked German Potato Salad.
Lastly, you have to do something fun for dessert. Why not some delicious Pineapple Slices or Apple Slices with cinnamon & honey? Both are sweet, yummy and easy to make. Plus you can fit a ton on your grill at once.
Sure I could point out some slow cooked BBQ ideas…but Memorial Day Weekend usually means grilling, so I’m keeping my suggestions simple. Summer has just begun – we’ll have plenty of time for low and slow over the next 4 months or so.
