Pulled Pork…at Wendy’s? YES!

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Wendy’s for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Frosty’s. Personally, that’s the first thing I think about when I hear the name Wendy’s. Holy heavenly shakes, I do so love you, Frosty.

The second thing I think about at Wendy’s is their tasty burgers. I’ve convinced my kids that Wendy’s is they best and now they agree. Wendy’s has now become a regular stop on our road-trips.

So, by this point, you’re asking yourself, “why is Kevin writing about Wendy’s? This is a BBQ site! What the heck?!” I’m glad you asked! Wendy’s is coming out with 2 new menu items for a limited time and I’m pretty jacked up about them. Pulled Pork and…wait for it….

…wait for it…

BBQ Pulled Pork Cheese Fries.

BAM. I just blew your mind.

Wendy’s has gone about it the right way, and that’s why I’m excited (see more on the Wendy’s website). Wendy’s respects pitmasters and their craft so much that they went to great lengths to take their BBQ Pulled Pork offerings to the next level – the Extraordinary level – finding inspiration from pitmasters across the country. Each pitmaster left their mark on Wendy’s BBQ, from the cut of meat to the way they applied the sauce.

A cut above any other quick-service restaurant offering, Wendy’s BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich is made of tender, premium, lean pork shoulder, slow-smoked for hours over hickory chips. The succulent shredded meat is topped with your choice of a custom-crafted BBQ sauce – sweet, smoky or spicy – and served with cool, crunchy coleslaw on a toasted brioche bun. I love that they went SO authentic and southern style with this – hickory for their smoke and coleslaw ON the sandwich. Color me impressed.

Then there are the fries. Oh my goodness, the fries. Using Natural-Cut Fries as a base, Wendy’s BBQ Pulled Pork Cheese Fries combines warm cheddar cheese sauce, hickory-smoked pulled pork, diced red onions and is topped with a choice of three sauces, perfect for a yummy side or snack…or possibly a meal.

Wendy’s has learned from watching the masters at work that the final touch to any great BBQ is adding the sauce. That’s why they give customers the most important decision to make – which custom-crafted sauce—sweet, smoky or spicy—to drizzle on top. In my opinion, THIS is what separates Wendy’s from other quick-service food joints that have tried BBQ. Normally you find it DRENCHED in sauce. That’s just not how it’s done. Let ME put the sauce on. Let me make that decision, thank you very much.

While Wendy’s got a few tips, plenty of the great BBQ pitmasters’ secrets remain uncovered. As a fun addition, consumers have a chance to unlock those mysteries for themselves, by visiting YouTube.com/Wendys to play Wendy’s “Crack the Masters” interactive game.

So be on the lookout for what we’ve all been waiting for – some tasty, done right, BBQ at a quick-service restaurant. When you do try it, please share! Let me know what you think. I know I’m excited. I really think Wendy’s has hit the mark with this one.
